This transitional kitchen remodel in Glenview, IL was designed for homeowners who love to gather, host, and make every occasion feel special. In close collaboration with the Design/Build firm, this extensive renovation transformed the entire first floor, part of the second floor, and portions of the exterior, resulting in one cohesive and inviting home centered around a stunning open concept great room.
Originally, the kitchen, family room, and porch were divided into separate, closed off spaces. Structural steel beams were installed to support the second floor, allowing the rooms to open into one expansive entertaining space. Symmetry became the guiding principle of the design. The hood is perfectly centered on the television. The sink and faucet align precisely with the hood and the light fixture over the table. Even the doorway to the dining room was relocated to create symmetry and serve as a gracious transition for serving and entertaining.
The transitional style is expressed through clean lines and minimal moldings. Shaker doors reinforce the simplicity of the design, while thoughtful details elevate the overall design. Under-cabinet lighting provides task lighting without visible fixtures, preserving the uninterrupted beauty of the handmade tile backsplash. Toe kick valances at the base of select cabinetry introduce a subtle furniture inspired touch.
Designed for serious entertaining, the kitchen features a stunning 48-inch Wolf range beneath a stainless hood and a 42-inch Sub-Zero refrigerator. The island stretches over ten feet and comfortably seats five. Achieving a single slab of quartz without a seam was critical for the island countertop. Kitchen Design Partners worked closely with the fabricator to design the island around the largest available slab, incorporating a 2.5-inch mitered edge for a substantial presence. The island is as functional as it is beautiful, complete with a sink, two dishwashers, waste storage, and organized drawers.
Additional custom cabinetry enhances both storage and flow. Buffet cabinetry flanks the dining room doorway for symmetry and convenience with a second waste and recycling pullout for use during serving and cleanup. A combined desk and bar area connects to the family room, featuring dual refrigerator drawers, hidden printer storage, and a lower wood countertop that distinguishes the workspace while maintaining visual cohesion.
The result is a thoughtfully balanced, highly functional kitchen designed for effortless entertaining and everyday living. It truly lives up to its name, an Entertainer’s Dream.
